Did you know that you can control how your website looks when people share it on social media? Do you even know what your website looks like when shared?
If the answer is “No” then you should definitely check it out. You may not be portrayed in the best light, as I found – see below. You only get one chance to make a first impression so you may as well make it count.
How to Preview Your Website Social Media Image
Facebook provides the Facebook Sharing Debugger. Go to the Facebook Sharing Debugger, put in the URL of your website and click the debug button. This will show you exactly what your webpage will look like when someone shares it on Facebook or Instagram.
Twitter provides the Twitter Card Validator. Go to the card validator, enter in your URL, and it will give you a preview of what your website will look like when it’s shared on Twitter.
LinkedIn provides the LinkedIn Post Inspector. Enter the URL, click inspect, and it will show you what your website will look like if someone shares it on LinkedIn.
How to fix problems
This is controlled from your website. If you need any help to make any changes, get in touch and we can point you in the right direction.
I will now go and sort out the problems revealed on my website by this little exercise! I may update this blog with the results in due course.
